What are the causes of stomach ulcer?

Stomach ulcer is the open blisters or sores that develop on the lining of the stomach and also known as gastric ulcer. Ulcer can also develop in part of intestine just beyond your stomach. Stomach ulcer may cause extreme pain at affected areas inside your stomach. However, stomach ulcer is curable with proper treatment but it is equally important to know the causes of stomach ulcer. Let’s have a quick glance at the causes of stomach ulcer.


What are the causes of stomach ulcer?

There is not one factor that can be the reason for stomach ulcer instead there are various factors that develops stomach ulcer. The decrease in mucus lining of stomach leads to blisters or sores or ulcers. This can be caused by any one of these reasons-

· Use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) from long time such as aspirin & ibuprofen

· Infection with bacterium Helicobacter Pylori (H.Pylori).

· Zollinger-Ellison syndrome which is rare disease. This syndrome makes your body generate excessive acid.

· Excessive acid in the stomach can also cause stomach ulcer. Hyperacidity caused may be related to various factors such as genetics, lifestyle (stress, smoking) and certain food habits. 

Certain causes of stomach ulcer that may put you at higher risk

· More consumption of alcohol

· Hereditary background of stomach ulcer

· Often uses of steroids (such as for treating asthma)

· Being over the age of 50 years

· Hypercalcemia (excessive production of calcium)

· Smoking
