Red wine activates spinal bone density in males

A treatment of osteoporosis in men is resveratrol, a natural compound present in red wine and grapes that helps in increasing the spinal bone density in men with metabolic syndrome. As per a research made on mice and rat, it was found that resveratrol compound has anti-inflammatory properties that protected against bone loss in these animals. The study reveals that resveratrol has the potential as an anti-osteoporosis drug for human beings. The outcomes of the study suggest that resveratrol activates the cells which form bones within our body.

Red wine activates spinal bone density in males

Let us try to know something more about “how red wine activates spinal bone density in males”. Further to the research on mice & rat, a randomized placebo-controlled trial was made to determine bone density & signs of bone formation & resorption in some middle-age men with metabolic syndrome. For almost 4 month’s duration, they took either a 500 mg dose of resveratrol, a 75 mg dose of the compound or a placebo 2 times a day. After the duration of 4 months, it was found that men who had higher doses of resveratrol had a 2.6% hike in lumbar spine volumetric bone density than those who took placebo. It was also found that the group belongs to high dose of resveratrol had 16% hikes in the levels of bone formation marker bone alkaline phosphate (BAP) than other groups. The significant improvements in bone density at spine and BAP were found just within 4 month’s duration.

Some more researches are required to get more positive results of resveratrol being protective against low spinal bone density in men. Resveratrol is one of the groups of plants known as polyphenols. Resveratrol is also found in nuts apart from red wine and grapes.
