What are the causing factors for asthma?

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that minimizes the ability to breathe properly. In asthma the patients feel obstructions in the inflow & outflow of air in airways (bronchi) that carry air into lungs. Asthma can be acute or chronic depending on the severity of patient’s condition. If you notice these symptoms (coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and chest squeezing) then you need to consult your doctor. The symptoms of asthma may not noticed until triggered by something that provokes a response in the body such as cold air, illness, certain medicines, exercise, stress, irritants in the air or an allergen.

Allergens are the substances that does not cause any problem to most of the people but generate an abnormal reaction in some others. When anyone (who is sensitive to a particular allergen) comes in contact with that allergen, his/her immune system takes it as a foreign substance & release chemicals to deal with it. For asthmatic persons, these chemicals can cause an asthma attack. The asthmatic person feels it difficult to breathe because of squeezing of airways and they may start coughing or wheezing. The asthmatic causes vary from asthmatic person to person but some of the common factors have listed below. Let's have a look at "What are the causing factors for asthma".

What are the causing factors for asthma?

· Irritants in the air such as smoke, fumes from chemicals and harsh odours.

· Weather conditions such as flus, cold air or extremely dry, colds, wet or windy weather and some other illnesses.

· Indoor allergen such as pet dander, dust particles and molds.

· Outdoor allergens such as pollen from grass, trees and weeds.

· Exercise (although asthmatic person may benefit from certain exercises).

· Extreme stress level.

· Viral respiratory infections (including flu) are the root causes of acute asthma attacks.

· People who have the problem of heartburn can experience asthma symptoms when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus.

· Approximately 20% of people with asthma are sensitive to aspirin. Asthmatic people should consult with their allergist whether they can avoid these products that contain aspirin such as ibuprofen.

· Beta blockers that often prescribed for high BP, glaucoma, migraine headache, angina etc. can cause bronchospasm. Bronchospasm is contraction of airway. Asthmatic people should consult with their allergist whether they can use these medicines or not.

· Food additives cause asthma in very rare cases. The most common food additive that can cause asthma is sulfite. Sulfite is a preservative used in such products as frozen potatoes and some beers & wines.

Is asthma a hereditary disease?

Yes, is the answer to this question. The chances become stronger to develop asthma if any one of your parent has or had asthma. If both of your parents have or had asthma then the chances become even more to develop asthma. Hence we can say that asthma is a hereditary disease and the tendency to develop asthma is inherited.

The studies of twin are another confirmation for asthma being a hereditary disease. According to this study, if first identical twin is asthmatic then the chances become more strong for second twin (who shares all the generic information as his/her identical twin) to have asthma than when first twin of two non-identical twins (who share few but not all the generic information) has asthma. However the entire story about asthma is not as easy as the idea that a person either inherits asthma gene or genes from their parents or does not. One fact we have come across from the studies of twin is that if one twin has asthma then the chances become stronger for other twin to develop asthma.

Is asthma a hereditary disease?

Let us discuss little more to know about "is asthma a hereditary disease?". Some people working in certain occupations (such as lumber mill) are more prone to develop asthma. For example- if you are an employee at limber mill and is exposed to sawdust from certain kinds of woods for long time then you may develop asthma. At earlier stage, the mill employee will experience the asthma symptoms only when they breathe in sawdust but after some time they develop asthma to all general stimuli (such as exercise, cold air, respiratory tract in infections etc.). In few cases the asthma may cure if the employee quit the job from mill but in some other cases it may not.

Similar to many other diseases, asthma results in part from a tendency present in anyone’s genes towards developing asthma and in part from exposure to his/her surroundings- that is part heredity and part environmental. It is quite tough to conclude that what are the environmental factors that contribute to develop asthma with a genetic predisposition. It may be the particles which you are allergic to such as germs in air, cigarette smoke, air pollution, viruses in air and many others.

Asthma can be acute or chronic depending on the severity of patient’s condition. If you notice these symptoms (coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and chest squeezing) then you need to consult your doctor.

What are the symptoms of Asthma?

Asthma is a chronic disease that can cause inflammation and narrowing of bronchial tubes of lungs. These bronchial tubes manage the inflow and outflow of air in lungs. When you feel shortness of breath, chest squeezing and coughing, then you need to consult a good doctor because it may be asthma.

Common symptoms of Asthma

· Coughing is one of the most common symptoms of asthma. It can be disaster at night or early in the morning and can make your sleep a bad dream.

· Wheezing is another symptoms found in asthmatic patients. Wheezing is a whistling sound that comes when you breathe.

· In asthma, your chest become tight and you feel that something is squeezing on your chest. It creates trouble in your breathing.

· Many asthmatic patients also feel shortness of breath sometimes. It happens when they cannot catch their breath properly or they feel out of breath and unable to get air out of your lungs.

However, not every asthmatic patient will have these symptoms, whereas having these symptoms does not mean that you are asthmatic. The best way to clear your doubt (if you have these symptoms) is to consult a good doctor. The doctor will diagnose you properly and tells you the actual result.

You should not avoid if you notice these kind of symptoms because asthma symptoms can be severe if do not treated properly. The best thing is to consult a doctor at early stage when you notice these symptoms. You can avoid these symptoms to become severe if it gets treated at early stage.

Strawberries are not a solution to get white teeth

You may have heard or seen videos that say using strawberries along with baking soda is an excellent remedy to get white teeth. But according to some researches, this formula does not actual works as teeth whitener. This formula only can remove some debris from your teeth but do not give you ivory white smile. If you really want to whiten your teeth then you need something that penetrates into your teeth and break down the stain molecule inside. If you do not have that then you only will get superficial rather than getting whitening from inside. Using strawberries & baking soda is a good example to show you that this type of remedies mostly gives you superficial instead of inner whitening.

The main reason for strawberries not being worthy solution as teeth whitener is the chemistry of this fruit. Strawberry is a tasty juicy fruit and has many benefits as well but as far as teeth whitening is concern it is lacking behind in hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. These two (hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide) are the main ingredients found in teeth whitening products.

In a study, the research team had compared a homemade strawberry & baking soda recipe with other remedies to get white teeth such as over-the-counter products & professional teeth whiteners. The results showed (after brushing teeth with strawberry & baking soda recipe) no real whitening, based on 2 popular color-measurement tests with a spectrophotometer.

Hence, you really need something else that can help you in regaining the whiteness in your teeth from inside. The best solution for this is to consult your dentist before you try any remedy as teeth whitener.
